Product Information

Paddling with the right paddle cadence is one of the most important and at the same time simplest methods to optimize your paddle technique. The cadence measurement can be started easily during the training session. In some heart rate monitors, however, the training profile must be set to Bike. You can analyze your training files including paddle cadence after training in your training software (eg Garmin Connect or Polar Flow). The Vaaka sensor helps you to control the paddle frequency without getting in the way.

Compatible with Garmin and Suunto devices that support cadence sensors. For Polar we currently only guarantee compatibility with the V800.

With my garmin I must use the cycle mode, not kayak mode…..

Thank you for you review. We are aware that the Garmin, as well as most sport watches must be used in bike profile to allow to connect to cadence sensors in general. This is set by the watch manufacturers and applies to all kind of cadence sensors. We therefore write clearly in the product description '...the training profile must be set to Bike.'.
We actually recommend, when using bike mode, to simply rename it to kayak or paddling. If you use the bike profile for biking otherwise, you can also set up the cadence sensor with an additional bike profile, such as mountain bike, if this is offered by your watch manufacturer.

Cadence training for Kayak Marathon

It would be great if you could provide or point me to any technical information / papers on cadence training for Kayak Marathon. I have the documents from the VAAKA website however others would be welcome. The sensor works great but would be nice if it worked with the Kayak profile on my garmin INSTINCT which includes pace as well as speed. Overall a very good product delivered promptly.

Vaaka sensor

Vaaka cadence sensor & Polar avantage M sportwatch.

The Vaaka cadence sensor does not communicate with the Polar avantage M, different from the website's stated note. Luckily, the Polar avantage M can monitor the paddle frequency under the running sport profile. Problem solved.

Hello Walter,
Thank you for leaving a honest review. As I could read from the Polar Support emails, they confirmaed to you that your Polar watch can read the data, but only in bike mode, not in kayak mode. They confirmed further, that the kayak mode of your Polar watch does not support ANY external sensors. So, it has to be used in bike mode, just as we suggest in the product description doing in this case. Also, Brendan from Vaaka confirmed to you by email, that your Polar watch can read and use the data.

P.S: If you are using bike mode for bike activities, and don't want to mix up the data feeds, you could use a different bike activity (such as mountainbike) for you paddle training and simply renaming the activity to kayak or paddling.

As I wrote to you, you are welcome to return the cadence sensor, as we do provide a 30 days return and refund policy. Just head to returns center (in the footer menu) and request a shipping label.

Best regards,
Christian
